In Grade 5 children learn to operate both on fractions and decimals. With a new concept getting introduced in every grade, percentages and the unitary method get introduced in Grade 5. Children start learning higher-order concepts in geometry. Concepts like measuring and drawing angles. By grade 5 the knowledge of whole numbers and their operations is strengthened. It is in this grade children also learn to operate on decimal numbers.&nbsp;Keeping this transition from primary school to middle school in mind, the Common Core lays down the standards for grade 5 mathematics with increased focus on generalization of place value to decimal numbers and operations on fractions and decimals.&nbsp;Common Core introduces Coordinate Geometry &nbsp;and the idea of volume as an attribute of 3-dimensional objects for the first time in grade 5. Reading and interpretation of measurement data using line plots is also one of the key areas of focus.&nbsp;Let children explore the different approaches to arrive at the right answer.
