In Grade 5 children learn to operate both on fractions and decimals. With a new concept getting introduced in every grade, percentages and the unitary method get introduced in Grade 5. Children start learning higher-order concepts in geometry. Concepts like measuring and drawing angles. By grade 5 the knowledge of whole numbers and their operations is strengthened. It is in this grade children also learn to operate on decimal numbers.&nbsp;Keeping this transition from primary school to middle school in mind, the Common Core lays down the standards for grade 5 mathematics with increased focus on generalization of place value to decimal numbers and operations on fractions and decimals.&nbsp;Common Core introduces Coordinate Geometry &nbsp;and the idea of volume as an attribute of 3-dimensional objects for the first time in grade 5. Reading and interpretation of measurement data using line plots is also one of the key areas of focus.&nbsp;Let children explore the different approaches to arrive at the right answer.
The curriculum of Grade 5, cuts across 5 major domains:

</ol>

The English curriculum is built around the three interrelated strands of language, literature and literacy. Teaching and learning programs should balance and integrate all three strands. Together, the strands focus on developing students&rsquo; knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating. Learning in English builds on concepts, skills and processes developed in earlier years.
